How to personalize with bubble letters:
Yes, it broke! Of course it did!!!! Need I say more about the quality of THINGS lately? Before school my daughter had her heart set on a kids OMG sequin pencil case. I was thinking, hmmm how long is this going to last? We were in a hurry….3 kids school supplies.. ok ok. Get it done! A month later though the stitching started coming out. “Mom, I need a new pencil case for school.” ugh… I knew it! She wanted to replace it with an even more bedazzled case but I spotted this heavy duty one hanging up in the same section.

zipper BAG from Walmart
It is super durable, made with a heavy duty fabric and strong zipper. I had to talk it up because I knew she wasn’t going to like it. I could tell it was just hanging up for the moms! No kid wants this! “We will make it great, and you will love it.” I kept saying. My girl was not a happy camper. Sad eyed and skeptical, I finally convinced her.
Hand drawing the BUBBLE LETTERS:
Once we had it home I wrote her initials lightly on the case with pencil. I wrote the letters as if I was drawing so I could get a good fit. Markers would be drawn on top and so I wasn’t worried about how perfect it was. I also knew that the pencil markings could be erased on this fabric.

Wrote initials lightly in pencil to fit
When I was a kid I was obsessed with bubble letters and hand lettering! Free-hand bubble art was huge in the 80’s and my fascination 🙂 but here I really didn’t want to mess up! Instead of free-hand, I bubbled around the initials in caps.
- Start BUBBLING around the initials!
- Thin sharpie to outline the letters and erase pencil marks
I handed it to my daughter to color with her fabric markers.

Fabric markers from Dollar Tree
This kid has always been really artsy. You’re right, those are fake tattoos and drawings all over her arm. 🙂 She comes up with the coolest graphics when she is coloring. I expected she might come out of the lines in some spots so I took a THICK sharpie and outlined the Initial bubbles.

FINISHED with a thick sharpie line around the letters
I let her go crazy on the back and draw and color whatever she wanted. She was thrilled with the result. It’s not perfect and it’s not meant to be! She was happy to color her new pencil case and make it her own. I asked her if she wanted to add sequins……she said “OMG no!! I love it just like that!” haha 🙂

This turned out so cute and I bet it will last much longer!
Thank you Roseann! Yes definitely:) It is made with upholstery fabric. Super strong and half the price of the kids cases. WIN WIN 🙂 Oh and I don’t have to make one…win win win…haha! Thanks for your comment!
Tell V she can make me one for my makeup travel bag!! If she takes orders I’ll buy one from her. Love it!’
Thanks Ashly!! V would love to! ha. I can see this one with her own business someday!
Ooooooo I remember bubble letters so well. We used to do them everywhere when we were in school. I hope they come back in a big way. I love your idea of buying a plain pencil case instead of the dollied up versions. They’re so much cheaper and making your own is way better. I need to show my daughter what your daughter did to hers. It might just make it easier to convince her. We could start a new trend 😉
YES!!! I agree! A new trend to bring bubble letters back!!! 🙂 Right now it seems that the whimsical script is very trendy. I love it but that is all I am seeing lately. Calligraphy and lettering in so many styles from gothic to graffiti have always been fascinating to me. Your daughter will love it on anything you put it on. I think I am going to attack my daughters backpack next! haha. Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting:)
